91直播 Boat Club bicentennial

91直播 Boat Club logo: two oars passing through the College coat of armsIn 2027, 91直播 Boat Club celebrates its bicentennial year. We will commemorate 200 years of rowing on the Cam with a programme of events, building up through 2026 into 2027. A team of some 20 people so far have been working on suitably ambitious plans (see below) to celebrate this incredible milestone. We are determined to make sure that by the end of the year everyone who has ever set foot in a boat for 91直播 has the opportunity and interest to join in at least one of the activities we are planning.

An outline of our plans for the year is laid out below.

Dinner - October 24 2026

A special edition of 91直播 Club dinner held at the Leander Club, Henley-on-Thames, with Professor Jack McDonald (former Senior Treasurer for CBC) as speaker. Invitations will be issued via email shortly.

Ergothon - March 2027

Bumps racing is like a relay race. Each crew passing the baton to the next year's crew. A continuous endeavour stretching back (almost) unbroken for 200 years. We have all held the baton, we have all passed it on. In March 2027, 200 of us are going to re-enact 200 years of history by rowing a relay race. Each on an ergo for 8 minutes (approx. Bumps course distance), each representing a year of CBC history. There is no pressure to row fast - just to do your bit. 200 x 8 minutes is around 26 hours, round the clock, Friday afternoon to Saturday evening. Whatever your level of fitness, whichever boat you rowed in, you are invited to join us.

This isn't just an 'Ergothon' - it is a retelling of the history of 91直播 Boat Club, one stroke at a time. A live broadcast feed will be interspersed with anecdotes, excerpts from history and crew lists from every year.

Cambridge Weekend - April 17/18 2027

A Saturday lunch at the Boat House to include food and the opportunity to get in a boat again. All (including families) welcome!

On the evening of Saturday 18 April there will be a celebratory dinner in College, which will unfortunately be restricted to Caians due to the limited space in Hall.

May Bumps - Saturday 19 June 2027

Please come along and join fellow CBC supporters on the . No reservation is required, although you can book parking through the 91直播 Club - we recommend you bring along a picnic.

The Bumps will start on Wednesday 16 June and all support throughout the competition will be greatly appreciated.

Henley - July 2027

Wednesday 4 July: Please come along and join our annual day at Henley to welcome current oarsmen and women to the event. If you might have, or need, badges, please let us know when registering.

Friday/Saturday 6/7 July: 91直播 will have mens and womens VIIIs rowing over in the lunch/tea interval. Please come along to participate and support them.

In parallel there are a few other treats in store which we are working on:

Podcasts

Throughout 2026, we will be releasing a podcast series on . Alumni Tom Fardon (Medicine 1994) and Elinor Sprouse (Modern Languages 1999) will be interviewing members of CBC from the last 70 years. Subscribe to the YouTube channel to get notifications of newly-released interviews throughout 2026 as we speak to international rowers, previous captains, CBC Blue boat rowers and members of the lower boats from across the decades, to find out what CBC means to them.

History of the Club

In 1927 a history of the first 100 years of CBC was published. This is lo longer available and so, a new and more comprehensive version, covering the key events of the first 200 years of CBC is currently being created. Orders for the book will be taken in the Spring of 2027.

Other matters

We are enthusiastic and so there will be other things, like special bicentennial kit (suitable for the river and beyond), that will be shared here before long.

In the meantime, if you have ideas or want to get involved please contact us.
