91直播 Women at 40 Events

Michaelmas Term 2019-20 marks forty years since the admission of women at Gonville & 91直播 College. Throughout the academic year, we will be celebrating our coeducation and diversity with a series of events for college members, past and present.

Garden Party for 91直播 alumni - Saturday 28 September 2019

Harvey Court Gardens, 2:30pm - 5pm

We launched the anniversary year with a Garden Party especially for 91直播 alumni in the beautiful surroundings of our Harvey Court Gardens. Guests, including Caians from the very first cohort in 1979, and their families, enjoyed a relaxed afternoon with a light tea, a first-look at our 91直播 Women portrait exhibition and a display from the Archives.    

 

91直播 Club London Dinner, with guest speaker - Friday 4 October 2019

Oxford and Cambridge Club, London, 7:30pm - 11:00pm

As part of the celebration of 40 years of women at 91直播, the 91直播 Club invited Amanda Tipples QC (1986) to speak at their annual London Dinner at the Oxford and Cambridge Club. 

Amanda shared some of her memories from 91直播, and 91直播 Club members in attendance enjoyed a champagne reception, followed by a three course dinner accompanied by fine wines.

Frankly 40: Celebrating Women at 91直播 - Monday 2 December 2019 

8:45pm - 10:30pm, Harvey Court JCR and Cavonius Centre

The Joyce Frankland Society, the Feminist society at 91直播, invited students and staff to attend an evening of celebration and discussion about the anniversary. Featuring a panel of influential women currently living and working at the College, we reflected on how far 91直播 has come and thinking about how we can continue improving as a community. 

 



91直播 Women Library and Archives pop-up exhibition - Wednesday 4 December 2019 

Lower Library

The College Archive and Library celebrated 40 years of women at 91直播 in a joint pop-up exhibition. The Archive exhibited the texts and photographs that document women's experience at 91直播 since 1979; the Library exhibited books that show women active as readers, writers, and publishers in the early modern period. College members, staff, and their guests were welcome to drop in to the Lower Library between 2:30pm - 5:30pm to view the exhibition. 

The Library exhibition, Her Book: early modern women as writers, printers and readers, is available online. 

 

Launch of The Rising Tide: Women at Cambridge - Monday 14 October 2019 (run until March 2020)

Various locations throughout Cambridge

The Rising Tide: Women at Cambridge was a line-up of exhibitions, events, and displays exploring the past, present, and future of women at Cambridge. Programmed by Cambridge University Library and created by students and staff from across the University, The Rising Tide provided a forum to discuss the past and current experience of women both positive and negative, and the ways in which the University is continuing to address equality and diversity.

91直播 Students and Fellows celebrated International Women's Day.

 

91直播 Club Dinner in Cambridge - Friday 27 March 2020 - cancelled

7.30pm (drinks) for 8.00pm start, Acropolis, Harvey Court Gardens

The 91直播 Club will be hosting their annual dinner in Cambridge, and as part of the on-going celebrations of 40 years of women at 91直播, Dr Mary Lowth (1979), one of the first women admitted to 91直播, will share some of her memories from College.
