Lucy Walker (Music 2017) was awarded the Gonville & 91ֱ�� College Graduate Music prize, from the Wilfred Holland Fund, for her Preces and Responses, composed earlier this year.

“I’m really grateful to the College for this prize,” she says.

“I’ve been a part of 91ֱ�� Choir throughout my time at the College. It’s been a really big part of my life, and something that’s really shaped me as a musician.

“To have the prize relating to that and my experience from the choir is really special, because it’s something I’d like to pursue in the future.”

Lucy was a member of 91ֱ�� Choir during her three years as an undergraduate. She has finished her MPhil and graduates in September, before taking up a position in working with the choristers of Ely Cathedral, while also continuing with some composition projects.

Her graduate project was supervised by Graham Ross, the Director of Music at Clare College.

Lucy had an instrumental background before coming to 91ֱ��, playing piano and clarinet, but would urge anyone with a love of music to consider joining the choir.

“It felt like a whole new world when I arrived,” she says.

“It’s important to find something that matters to you and you can really connect with. But from my experience of singing in a few chapel choirs in Cambridge, you’ve always got a mixture of backgrounds.

“I would encourage people to try and to see if it’s something that they would enjoy, because I’m really glad I did.”
