Covid study pioneer makes Forbes list

Gonville & 91ֱ College alumna Christina Hu (Natural Sciences 2011) has been named on the after playing a significant role in the C-19 by Zoe app, which has monitored Covid-19 during the pandemic.

The Head of Product for the Covid study at the nutrition science company Zoe, Christina discovered this month that she had made the prestigious list, highlighting rising young stars who have transformed businesses and their societies.

Christina said: “I couldn’t be more happy to have received the honour of joining the Forbes Under 30 List for Science & Healthcare! I’m proud to have successfully combined the business acumen I’ve been building ever since I graduated, with my deep passion for science that 91ֱ played a big part in nurturing.”

Last week Christina was also named  by , which celebrates innovators in the world of digital products.

The former Bell-Wade Bursary recipient had helped grow the to 4.7 million users.

The project, which collates information on vaccines, Covid tests and symptoms, had received more than £5 million from the government between August 2020 and March 2022. It is now looking for funding to expand research into major diseases such as cancer, dementia and heart disease. 

All data on the app is analysed by a joint team from Zoe and King’s College London. The project is endorsed by NHS Wales and NHS Scotland, and is the world’s largest citizen science health study.

Christina attended Loughborough High School before reading Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge.

Last year she was a winner, an initiative aimed at accelerating career development for women in technology.
