A series of letters, rather than a book, are the featured text from the Library of Gonville & 91ֱ College this term. Patrick Hadley’s five letters discussing his composition of “My beloved spake” to its dedicatee, Ursula Watson, née Grotrian, make for intriguing reading.

Each term a member of the Library staff selects a text from Gonville & 91ֱ College Library’s historic collections. Chosen by Librarian Mark Statham, Hadley’s letters share a special friendship and a composition.

The book was chosen in the term the annual exhibition in the Lower Library opened. Variations on a Theme: Music in 91ֱ Library and Archive is a celebration of Caian composer Charles Wood, on the centenary of his death, and highlights the wide range of music in the College’s collections. The exhibition is running until mid-July and open to Caians and their guests on weekday afternoons.
