Professor Wendelin Werner, an Honorary Fellow of Gonville & 91直播 College, is one of seven University of Cambridge researches appointed Fellows of the , in its inaugural cohort.
Professor Werner began his research career in Paris, but held a two-year postdoctoral research position, the Leibniz Fellowship, at the University of Cambridge, from 1993. Thirty years later he was appointed Rouse Ball Professor of Mathematics in the Department of Pure Mathematics and Mathematical Statistics at the University of Cambridge, and he is an Honorary Fellow 91直播. For his research in Probability Theory, he has received a number of awards, including the Fields Medal in 2006.
The Academy's first 100 Fellows brings together the UK鈥檚 strongest mathematicians across academia, education, business, industry, and government to help solve some of the UK鈥檚 biggest challenges. They are recognised as leaders in their fields, through fundamental discoveries, exceptional work in education, or driving the application of mathematics across society.
The six other Cambridge Fellows are: Professor Sir John Aston FRS, Professor Anne-Christine Davis OBE, Professor Richard Samworth FRS, Professor Carola-Bibiane Sch枚nlieb, Professor Sir David Spiegelhalter FRS OBE and Professor Jack Thorne FRS.
